Massey Station is a portrait series I created to document the spirit and dedication of the Manukau Live Steamers—a miniature locomotive club based in Māngere, South Auckland.

The project began with a spark of curiosity. While driving along the South Western Motorway, I often noticed train tracks winding through Māngere Centre Park. Eventually, I discovered they belonged to the Manukau Live Steamers, a community of passionate train enthusiasts who have been operating in the area since 1981.

What struck me most was that this was more than just a hobby. The club’s members are deeply committed to preserving the craft of miniature rail and generously offer low-cost rides to the public, quietly contributing to the vibrancy of our local community.

This series is a celebration of the people behind the locomotives—their passion, craftsmanship, and the enduring sense of community they help foster in South Auckland.
